Unity is necessary if we are to promote national education…The State Minister of Education Reforms, Open Universities and Distance Education Development Dr. Susil Premajayantha

The State Minister of Education Reforms, Open Universities and Distance Education Development Dr. Susil Premajayanthastated that the National Institute of Education is the 36 years old official government institution which has been vested with a number of duties in the education field including  the formulation and development of curriculum, providing the trained teachers to the school system and the implementation of new education reforms that the government has drawn its full attention as a matter of priority need to be fulfilled with regard to the education system in this country.

He expressed these ideas while participating in a special meeting held today (30) at the National Institute of Education premises with leadership of the minister in order to discuss the matters pertaining to the programs currently implemented by the national institute of education and the programs that would be introduced in the future.

This meeting was held with the participation of a group including the State Secretary of Education Dr. Upali Sedara, the Director General of National Institute of Education Dr. Sunil Jayantha Nawarathna and the Deputy Director Generals and other senior officials and also the Directress of Nenasa Education Branch of the ministry of education.

A long discussion was held at this special meeting regarding matters relating to the quality of program production, preparing the content, production of primary education programs and its practical conditions, the necessity of acquiring additional capacity for uploading the produced programs using cloud server, Nenasa television programs, Ethaksalawa programs in the production process of Guru Gedara television educational programs and also the necessity of maintaining a proper coordination among all these sections.

The minister’s special attention was drawn towards the matters regarding the proposal to promote the national institute of education up to a university and the measures to be taken for that purpose and the matters about expected recruiting of academic staff for the future.

The minister pointed out in order to make the proposed new education reforms a success, priority must be given to the classification of schools and capacity building of teachers and this must be done according to an appropriate procedure. He further said that even if the country is opened from tomorrow, it would be possible to inquire the readiness of the school system for implementing the proposed new education reforms only after implementing the decision of school opening properly.
