- Ordinary Level Examination may be postponed due to the delay of Advanced Level paper marking
- Nobody talks about the rights of 4 million children
The Minister of Education Dr. Susil Premajayantha says that there is a possibility of postponing the ordinary level examination that is scheduled to be held shortly because about the three months’ time gap that should normally be there between two exams has been delayed due to the two weeks delay in marking the answer scripts even though the Advanced Level exam was successfully completed.
Any country in the world making arrangements to wind up the school educational activities missed during the Covid pandemic, does not follow any trade union activity to make children frustrated and nobody is talking against the breach of rights of 4 million children and about 8 million their parents and he appears for that group, the minister said. He also said that the educational activities of the children in international schools continue properly and the most unfairness happen to the people in lower social status with economic difficulties because of the break down in educational activities due to these trade union actions.
He stated these ideas in response to the questions asked by the media people when he was participating in an observation tour at St. John Maha Vidyalaya, Mattakkuliya in order to check the progress of school mid-day meal program with the American Ambassador Ms. Julie Chung. Further expressing his ideas on this matter, the minister said that he took actions specially to fulfill all the demands made by teachers and university teachers and to increase the payments in two fold for the markers of answer scripts and also interfered to draw the government’s attention to the subject of tax policy through treasury demands. The minister stated that he expects the teachers’ trade unions and the university teachers’ community will start the marking of answer scripts as soon as possible considering the future of children.
