–There is no intention of postponing the advanced level examination

The Minister of Education Dr. Susil Premajayantha says that his expectation is to bring the Sri Lanka University of Education that will be established combining all colleges of education within next year to the level of recognized university registered in the University Grants Commission and create Bachelor of Education graduate teachers by the year 2017. Accordingly, it is expected to admit teacher trainees not to the colleges of education but to this Sri Lanka University of Education from next year and the concept paper for that purpose has already submitted and the necessary activities have been done to submit the detailed cabinet paper next week, the minister further stated. The minister stated this information while participating in a program held in the Uva National College of Education. At this occasion the minister said that the 19 colleges of education will be provided with two “Smart Boards” each within the next two months and a balanced development is necessary in every sector for a quality development in education.
School text books and all uniforms were provided even at a moment of economic crisis situation and the delayed examinations were held and the remaining ones are being held as planned while the work of scrutinizing answer papers was also done and the number of students receiving school mid-day meal will also be increased in the future, the minister stated.
While expressing his ideas at this occasion about the delay of examinations the minister said that the dates for holding the advanced level examination have been already declared by the Department of Examinations and there is no intention of postponing them at all. He pointed out that if it is postponed, the other exams including the ordinary level exam will also be delayed and the timetable of examinations and the school timetable will be messed up again. It is the responsibility of all to support with necessary sacrifices in a situation of streamlining the examination and study timetables if not all the damages will have to be borne by the children, the minister said.
