It takes normally for about 04 months’ time for the G.C.E. (Advanced Level) results scrutinizing activities and although this time the examination was concluded on 17^th of February those activities had to be started on 20^th of May due to the reason of the relevant parties not participating in those activities. Since that date, the Department of Examinations has taken actions to expedite the scrutinizing activities and release the results within a short period of time.     

Even if the Department of Examinations had planned to conduct the G.C.E. (Advanced Level) Examination of 2023 in October, prior announcement had made on 17.07.2023 saying that the relevant examination is scheduled to be held from 27^th of November to 21^st of December 2023 due to the reason of the delay in scrutinizing the papers.

The students sitting for the G.C.E. (Advanced Level) Examination of 2023 for the first time, sat for the G.C.E. (Ordinary Level) Examination in March 2021 and the results were released in September 2021. They had entered the G.C.E. (Advanced Level) classes by 20^th of December 2021. Accordingly, it is possible to hold 343 school days and complete the syllabuses of the subjects by 24^th of November 2023. 

The expectation of the parents is to take the opportunity for examinations very soon considering the age of the students and it is also a contemporary need of the students to sit for the examinations and receive the results as soon as possible.

By this time the applications for the G.C.E. (Advanced Level) Examination of 2023 have been called and the number of applications received so far is 323,913. The number of applications received last year (2022) was 331,709.

Even after releasing the results, the students sitting for the second or third time has the opportunity to apply.

After releasing the examination results this time, if any candidate wants to re-sit for the exam, the opportunity will be provided online by the Department of Examinations.

Normally the students sitting for the G.C.E. (Advanced Level) Examination are presented with 06 school terms but these students have got 07 school terms within 343 days till 24^th of November.  

If the currently proposed exam timetable and the term schedule are revised again, an injustice will happen to the large majority of students and the idea of the parents and students is that the human rights of entire students would be violated through it.

In the event of applying for the G.C.E. (Advanced Level) Examination, the school attendance of advanced level school children has been reduced from 80% to 40% and according to the information received from the schools, the attendance of the students in the G.C.E. (Advanced Level) classes of 2023 remains at a minimum level because the syllabuses have been covered.
