The Minister of Education Susil Premajayantha says that he proposes the students following the subject of Commerce and Business Studies which links directly with the economy of a country must be sent in the future to the institutions like banks where the theoretical subject knowledge is practically put into the professional use and must acquire the experience of practical side of academically obtained subject knowledge. And he is taking action to give necessary permission for this purpose in writing through a circular.
The minister stated this while participating in the award and certificates presentation of the competition for selecting the best school commerce society held at the Bandaranayake Memorial International Conference Hall by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with Sri Lank Licensed Accountancy Management Institution (CMA).
The Minister also stated at this occasion that The Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Department of Examinations has successfully faced the challenge of conducting the Advanced Level and Ordinary Level examinations in 2023 that had to be conducted in the year 2022. And also while holding the ordinary level exam in 3500 centers island wide, the activities of scrutinizing of advanced level answer scripts are conducted simultaneously. The minister further mentioned that it is expected to release the results of Advanced Level Examination which was held under four subject streams and the results of the Ordinary Level Examination that is currently being held, by the end of June.
He mentioned that we must try to update the knowledge targeting the aims of sustainable development that has to be achieved by 2030. Since it has not been done , a rapid change must be done in the education system that has been outdated. The children must be given the opportunity to learn the subjects which help to develop the left and right sides of the brain and the children following the medical science must have the opportunity to learn the art subjects also like music. If it does not happen, only pre-schools and primary education will remain very soon within the school system, the minister said. Therefore, the transformational changes in education has already been started and the actions have been taken to the teaching of practical use of English language from grade one and the aligning with the STEAM education system. Accordingly, it has been started to teach Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence from the grades 6-9 and 10-13 in 20 schools island wide as a pilot project. The minister also mentioned that the society must come forward for the rights of children’s education while appearing for their own rights.
