Our knowledge of Technology must be updated
Our knowledge as Sri Lankans is high but there are problems when it is practically used
Although we are advanced in knowledge in comparison to other countries, the other countries take the advantage of our human knowledge since we do not have a proper arrangement to use it practically. It has been influenced by the negligence of the people who manage the economy of this country. The Sri Lankan human resource full of knowledge that has been scattered all over the world must be called back and the future of the country must be built up catching up with the fourth industrial revolution that we have missed with a gap, says The Minister of Education Dr. Susil Premajayantha. The minister points out that the attention and the support of the economists of this country must be drawn towards the knowledge and technology.
It is expected to add Technology to ordinary level as a core subject through the education reforms process and in line with that the students will be empowered with knowledge and technology while the emerging subjects like Nano Technology, Bio Technology, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence are merged with Information Technology. Through all these measures we have to engage in a rapid endeavor to make the way for overcoming the future challenges, the minister further stated.
The minister said at this occasion that by March and April next year all the schools are interconnected without neglecting any school in the island in the future through the provision of internet facilities for 1000 schools spending 1000 million and all teachers and principals are included in the internet and their placements, promotions will be done through internet making some saving in the official and administrative procedures.
The minister revealed these information while participating in the function held at the Ministry of Education with the leadership of the Minister of Education for awarding presents and certificates to the students and teachers who had won the achievements in “Champions of Information and Communication Technology” competition held at the national level. This competition had been organized and implemented by the Information and Communication Branch of the Ministry of Education, Computer Studies Section of the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka Information Technology Industrial Board and Sri Lanka Computer Association. The State Minister Aravinda Kumar and the officers of the Ministry of Education had joined in this occasion.
