A meeting between the Director General of Asian Development Bank Mr. Kenichi Yokoyama and The Minister of Education Dinesh Gunawardana was held on 30.09.2021 at Isurupaya, the ministry of education. The Director General said that the annual meeting of the Asian Development Bank for next year will be held in Sri Lanka and the minister said that it is an honour for Sri Lanka.
The minister expressed the thankfulness for 400 million American dollars aid that has already been granted by the Asian Development Bank under the “Secondary education sector development program” for the development of general education and the higher education in Sri Lanka.
He further emphasized that the development activities are being implemented to promote the level and relevance of secondary education through the development of science, technology, mathematics and commerce sections under that program and also the implementation of education reforms at national and provincial levels and the program for providing learning opportunities for teachers and principals for the purpose of capacity building in secondary education management are also successfully implemented.
The Director mentioned that the South Asian Development Bank has so far granted the maximum amount of aids to Sri Lanka and also can be satisfied about the projects implemented.
The Director General also mentioned that it is expected to provide more aids to the education, higher education and vocational training projects in the future.
The Director of Asian Development Bank in Sri Lanka Mr. Chen Chen, the Secretary of the ministry Professor Kapila Perera, Deputy Director in Sri Lanka Mr. Utsav Kumar also attended to this occasion.
