- G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination will start on 21st February

The Minister of Education Professor G.L. Peiris said that it was decided to hold the general certificate of education ordinary level examination from Monday 21st February to Thursday 03rd of March 2022 which was earlier scheduled to be held in January.
The minister said this while participating in the media discussion of Podujana Peramuna at Nelum Mawatha on 26.07.2021.
The vaccination program which is implemented island wide for teachers, academic and non-academic staff with the aim of opening the schools as soon as possible has been completed up to about 77% by morning today (26.07.2021). Accordingly, 98% in the Western Province, 83% in the Southern Province, 82% in the North Western Province, 80% in the Uva Province, 79% in the Central Province, 62% in the Northern Province, 52% in the Sabaragamuwa Province and 48% in the eastern Province have been completed. According to that, 2,22,940 vaccines have been given under this program by the time of this morning today. It is expected to give second dose of the vaccine before the end of August. Accordingly, the opening of schools will be done gradually step by step at the end of August or the beginning of September under a specific procedure under the guidance of health authorities.
The government is taking every possible effort to solve the problem of teachers’ salary anomalies and it is a matter that remained for about 24 years. The government was sensible about this issue, the minister said.
D.C. Perera report revealed the matters related to this problem and the President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has mentioned in his policy declaration vision for prosperity that this matter will be given a priority. Just after the President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa came to power, the minister of education Dallas Alahapperuma submitted a cabinet paper about the same matter. The minister also said after taking up the ministry of education by him five senior officers were appointed to prepare a full report about this matter. According to it, this matter was studied deeply and the ‘Subodini’ report has been submitted. The discussions were made continuously with the trade unions regarding this and it is scheduled to submit a cabinet paper today at 05.00 pm when the cabinet is met. Furthermore, it is scheduled to have a discussion with the teachers’ unions again tomorrow morning. (27.07.2012) So it is requested from the teachers to continue the online education without subjecting the students for any suffering, the minister further said.
