The Minister of Education Professor G.L. Peiris said that the government takes a higher interest in skills development while developing the traditional education. While improving the traditional universities the government considers the vocational training as an important matter affecting directly the future of everybody but not as a secondary matter.
The minister stated this while participating in the inaugural function of the course of telecommunication technology at the industrial coordination apprenticeship training center, Orugodawatta on 16.07.2-21.
The main problem that the major companies in the country conveying us is not the capital but the trained workforce. They say that if there is the relevant skilled labour, the present activities in the field of computer technology can be increased in three-fold. For the creation of such people, skills development is an essential factor. That is why HE the President took action to create a separate state ministry affiliated to the ministry of education for this purpose. The state minister has been working to create a remarkable change in the field of vocational training within a period of 11 months. As a result of this, we would be able to see a rapid development in vocational training field very soon in our country.
Detailed theoretical and practical training on the telecommunication systems including the system maintenance and protection are included in this course. The course has been designed consisting of 06 months theory part and 12 months practical training. The effort taken by the national apprenticeship and technical training authority involving in this program must be appreciated.
A gathering including The State Minister Seetha Arambepola, the chairperson of the National Apprenticeship and Technical Authority and the private secretary of the minister Mr. Nalin Gamlath joined in this occasion.
