The General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level Examination will be started on Monday the first of March (01) and the exam will last for nine days this time. Six hundred and twenty two thousand students (622,000) are scheduled to sit for the exam, The Minister of Education Professor G.L. Peiris said.
All arrangements have already been made about the way of conducting the exam within the covid pandemic situation and also the actions have been taken to keep two special examinations centers in each district as a pre-arrangement in case of any student sitting for the exam becoming infected, the minister mentioned.
The minister further mentioned that this time the exam will be held at 4,513 centers island wide and the financial allocations worth of more than fifty million rupees have been provided to the provinces to arrange additional special exam centers. The all information were received in relation to the conducting the exam through the online contacts with the provincial directors of education in each district. Accordingly, all actions have been planned under a complete program, he expressed.
The steps have been taken to ensure the full health protection of the students following the instructions of health authorities including public health inspectors and medical health officers. The discussions were also held with the Sri Lanka Railway Department and the Road Passenger Transport Authority in relation to the implementation of transport activities during the exam period. Accordingly, they have arranged special program for this purpose, the minister pointed out.
If there will be a bad weather condition, the navy and the other defense sectors have directly joined in order to solve any problem affecting the conducting the exam or the students coming to the exam halls. The parents can undoubtedly be satisfied with this arrangement done by the government for holding the examination, the minister said.
Furthermore, the ministry of education draws its full attention to the continuation of children’s education without any obstacle even though many challenges emerge. Although the ordinary level examination was delayed this time, the expectation of the ministry of education is to issue the results of the exam during the next June and the students will be admitted to the advanced level classes in the month of July, the minister pointed out.
