The Minister of Education Professor G.L. Peiris
For a better communication between Sinhala and Tamil people, while the people in south are learning Tamil the people in the north must be taught Sinhala language. The school children in the north are willing to learn Sinhala language. Our government is working to fulfill that task at school level, said The Minister of Education Professor G.L. Peiris.
The minister expressed this after meeting and receiving the blessings of Rev. Ralapanawe Dhammajothi Thero the chief incumbent of Lankaramaya, Anuradhapura.
Further expressing his views at this occasion the minister said,
We received a full-pledged agricultural faculty building which is consisted of all relevant requirements for the agricultural development in the dry zone under the donations of Japanese government. We have planned to implement its activities specially prioritizing the marketing and improving the production etc. Our government has already devised the plans and are been implementing them for the improvement of education, agriculture and the fishing industry of the people in the north, the minister said.
The minister also mentioned that he was able to inquire specially about the education during his tour. All the senior education officers were met and gathered information about the common problems such as the teacher shortages in schools, teacher training needs and identifying the national schools. The actions will also be taken to do the follow up work calling for reports every fortnight, the minister said.
The language problem prevailing between Sinhala and Tamil people must be solved very soon. Tamil children are very keen to learn Sinhala language. We hope to provide that facility for them. Through that they will be able to identify the others, the minister further said.
