The inauguration of the national program of establishing 1000 national schools complete with full facilities within the school system of this country with the aim of strengthening the school system for providing quality education opportunities to all children in the country was held today (30) at Sri Jayawardanapura School Kotte with the leadership of The Minister of Education Professor G.L. Peiris.
Expressing his ideas at this occasion, The Minister of Education Professor G.L. Peiris mentioned that the Kotte Sri Jayawardnapura School which is reported even Dr. C.W.W. Kannangara considered as the father of free education had studied here and now it requires several developmental needs. This is an excellent school with the history of 200 years situated within a 14 acre land in Colombo district. For the provision of complete education to the children, all sections must be developed including the facilities such as computer technology, information technology and language studies. The new national schools to be established in the country will have all these facilities.
While expressing the views about the future aims of the ministry of education for the year of 2121 the minister of education said that the minimizing gaps among schools, generating the practical trend in education, removing the distance between the livelihoods and the education received by the children, the revision of the outdated curriculum that has not been changed for several decades to suite modern world and the career guidance for deciding the suitable employment according to the education and competencies achieved by the children are the priorities. The ministry of education expects to prepare a proper initiative in the future for this purpose, the minister emphasized.
The ministry of education has planned to implement the program of establishing 1000 national schools in several stages which is started with the guidance and instructions of HE the President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. Under the first stage of it, 123 schools will be upgraded as national schools and in the second stage it has been planned to develop 673 schools, the minister further stated.
A gathering including MP Madura Witharana, the principal of Sri Jayawardanapura School and senior officers of the ministry of education had joined in this occasion.
