HE The High Commissioner of India Mr. Gopal Bagle mentioned that the assistance can be provided from the government of India for the educational development activities in this country including the training of trainers in the fields of technological, vocational, educational and training (TEVT).
The High Commissioner of India expressed these ideas at a special meeting held at the ministry of education yesterday (24) under the leadership of The Minister of Education Professor G.L. Pieris with the participation of The State Minister of Skills Development, Vocational Education, Research and New Inventions Seetha Arambepola and some senior officers including the Education Secretary K.K.C.K. Perera.
Mr. Gopal Bagle further stated that India has already been helping Sri Lanka for educational development activities including Mahatma Gandhi scholarship program. If the priority areas for educational development in this country are pointed out, the assistance can be provided for such developmental activities, he said.
The Minister of Education Professor G.L. Pieris emphasized at this occasion that there is a mismatch between the vocational education and the job market in this country and also there is a need for directing towards new teaching methodologies which can motivate the students instead of traditional teaching methods practiced in the institutions providing vocational education.
The minister further stated that the assistance of the Indian government is sought for the training of trainers (TOT) for creating the experts in the fields of Information Technology, English Language and Science and also to strengthen further the cordial exchange programs between the two countries and to introduce extensively the online courses in relation to vocational education and technological subjects.
