Updated training sessions for newly appointed 4672 principals to be able to face the new technology and new challenges

The challenges that has to be faced by the newly appointed principals are totally different from what the principals faced several years ago and these principals must be able to identify correctly the needs of the children who face their future with the digital technology and prepare the schools for them. The minister further said that he gave The Minister of Education Dr. Susil Premajayantha said that the steps will be taken to fill all principal vacancies prevailing in the school system of this country by the next year 2024. The minister stated this while participating in the function held at the D. S. Senanayaka College, Colombo for handing over of the appointments to 4672 new principals of Grade iii of the Sri Lanka Principal Service. The minister pointed out that for the purpose of continuation of education system properly, filling the vacancies in the field is essential. At the moment there are 808 vacancies in educational administrative service and the approval from the treasury has already obtained to fill 50% of it. Accordingly, those 404 vacancies will be filled in the near future. The minister further stated that although the number that should be in the teacher advisors service is 4200, only 1100 is in the service now. A cabinet memorandum has already been prepared to complete those vacancies, the minister said. The minister also pointed out that there must be 1800 officers in the teacher educators service but there are no more than 800 of them. Therefore, actions will be taken to appoint 707 officers in the near future, he said.

This is the first time of recruiting such number of principals to the school system after the year 2019 and all 1AB and 1C schools will be digitalized within next year, the minister pointed out. The vocational development opportunities will be given to the teachers and the principals to suit that situation and all the steps will be taken to strengthen the faith of children towards the school by holding the examinations within the proper times regularly, he emphasized.
There were challenges in many fields like the distribution of text books and the distribution of uniforms when he accepted the position of the minister of education this time and now the solutions for them have been given, the minister stated. A program has been devised to provide the mid-day meal for all the students in primary grades. An information has been spread in society saying that the steps have been taken to increase the charges of school development societies by 50% but the Ministry of Education has not taken such a decision, the minister mentioned at this occasion.
The Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Colombo District Secretary, senior officers of the Ministry of education and several officers from zones and provinces had joined in this occasion.
