Creating a disciplined child must be started from pre-school

– Although there is a lecturer in tuition classes, a teacher must be in the school classroom

– The Minister of Education Susil Premajayantha

There is a transformative necessity to generate discipline from pre-school within the school system and the Ministry of Education must provide leading example for it, said The Minister of Education Susil Premajayantha. The discipline acquired by the children in the school including mutual respect without unnecessary competition is an excellent foundation for the advancement of the society and the example provided by a Principal within a school is a major contribution for this purpose and specially the teachers with better training in primary education provide a considerable support for it, the minister said. The minister also mentioned at this occasion that the experience gained by an officer as a Principal is extremely important to perform affectively taking correct decisions when holding high positions in the ministry.

The minister further stated at this occasion that the quality development of the officials at all levels in the ministry must be upgraded by providing a proper training on office procedures and implementing the internal transfers and also that productive change must be empowered within the school system throughout the country through an attitudinal change. For this purpose, “Sathipasal” program to improve the consciousness which is being implemented successfully, can be utilized.

Many schools where the students belonging to various religions study together, remains without any religious disturbances and such students breeding with discipline and respecting each other live in the society and working places in harmony as good citizens and the support of all religions must be given to create such conditions in all schools, the minister said. The minister requested to submit proposals for that purpose. Then the message of co-existence and religious harmony can be spread all over the society through the school children exceeding 41 hundred thousand, the minister pointed out. The minister mentioned that although he is working dedicatedly representing a broader representation to increase the quality development section of education completing many physical and structural activities successfully, still he has to spend more time not to take policy decisions but to attend to long term issues like resolving the service anomalies but it is not beneficial for the student population.

Further expressing his views, the minister said at this occasion that the teachers must encourage themselves to perform a real teacher involved in many spheres of children’s lives but not being merely a tuition master.

The attention of the ministry has been drawn to control the Dengue menace that has become a social challenge at the moment and as soon as the G.C.E. Ordinary Level exam is over, the cleaning activities of exam centers in Kurunduwatta area in Colombo including the leading schools from where near 40 Dengue patients have been reported, will be started with the minister’s personal attendance and it will be extended all over the country, the minister said.
