The most people who talk about a productive economy do not know how to do it but I know it and it is being done at the moment and we are heading for a productive economy through the encouragement of new inventions, says The Minister of Education Dr. Susil Premajayantha.
The minister further said that all those who have been appointed as the heads of institutions in the field of science and technology, are subject specialists and a speedy development is expected in these fields through integrating them into the education system.
The minister stated this while participating in a program at Waters Edge addressing the conference which is organized by-annually by the National Science and Technology Commission. Sri Lankan scientists and researchers in the country as well as from other countries had been invited for this workshop and their theme was “Science, Technology and Inventions for Sustainable Development in an Era of Fluctuating Climate Changes” in relation to contemporary topics. The session papers of their particular sessions will be provided to the institutions in the field of science and technology.
Further expressing his ideas at this occasion the minister said that it is quite appropriate the scholars have drawn their attention to climatic changes as well as to the clean energy sources and food security and also it is so important for our country to consider the environment friendly energy sources like wind, sun light and water and also the food security.
The minister appreciated the work of National Science and Technology Commission that comes under the Ministry of Education and along with that he appreciated the National Research Council that provides support to the researchers and new inventors with annual financial contributions and appreciations for the improvements in the field of science and technology. The minister also reminded at this occasion the support extended by Arthur C. Clerk Center for the development of science and technology field in this country.
