The American government has supported to provide the benefits of school nutrition program for more students which is implemented by the government with the aim of giving opportunities to the school children to engage in educational activities more efficiently with proper attention in the classroom and the American Ambassador Julie Chung participated in an observation tour with The Minister of Education Dr. Susil Premajayantha at Guruaragama College, Galwanguwa, Embilipitiya to observe the progress of this school mid-day meal program. In addition to this, donation of reading books to the school and the commencement of a new project to improve sanitary facilities of the children also happened at this occasion.
Among the main objectives of this program, making a trend for school attendance of the children, generating better food habits, encouragement of children for a well-balanced diet and maintaining the physical and mental health of children at a suitable level are the most important ones. Accordingly, the American government has donated improved rice, Vatana dhal, Rose Salmon and cooking oil in several occasions.
Local and foreign invitees including The Governor of Sabaragamuwa Province Mr. Tikiri Kobbekaduwa and the officers from Save the Children institution had joined in this event.
