The Buddhist monks of Buddhist and Pali University and the convener of the Inter-university Federation with another group entered the ministry of education forcefully without any prior notification and created a disturbing situation.
Administrative Council of the Bhikshu University, University Teachers’ Association, the Minister of Education and the Secretary of the ministry had a long discussion about the problem of Buddhist and Pali University last week at the Ministry of Higher Education. At this occasion the Administrative Council sensitized about the steps to be taken in the future. The Ministry of Higher Education informed that the Administrative Council has the power to take the relevant steps for the affairs of that university and to take necessary steps to open that university on an earliest possible date. It was further informed to the Administrative Council that there is not an issue for the Ministry of Higher Education with regard to this matter.
Accordingly, the Administrative Council informed that at the weekend there will be a Pirith chanting and the university will be opened step by step starting from 27th Monday.
The cancellation of classes for several students has been done by the Administrative Council and the ministry does not have any power to change the decisions taken by the council and the Ministry of Higher Education says that if any change is done in that decision, it must be done by the Administrative Council and the ministry cannot interfere with that.
Under these circumstances, for the reason of entering forcefully into the premises of Ministry of Education that works for the general education of about 42 hundred thousand children in this country and behaving in an unruly way, the police came to the ministry premises and acted according to the law.
