The American government has donated a consignment of dry food with the aim of improving the nutritional quality of the school mid-day meal. The officially handing over of this consignment of food to The Minister of Education Dr. Susil Premajayantha by the American Ambassador in Sri Lanka Ms. Julie Chung happened today (29) at “Spectra” stores complex situated at Muthurajawela, Wattala.
Highly nutritional Rose Salmon 890 metric tons and 2000 metric tons of dhal has been received under this donation. These dry rations are scheduled to be added to the mid-day meal of school children.
This nutritional program is launched collectively by the three ministries, Education, Finance and Health with the direct involvement of “Save the Children” organization. It is expected from this nutritional program to encourage the school attendance of the children and improve their learning attention and to maintain the balanced nutritional level of the meal. The main objective of this program is to develop the learning skills of the students.
A gathering including the regional representative of the Department of Agriculture in the United States of America Mr. Mariano Beillard and Country Director of “Save the Children” institution Mr. Julian Chellappah had attended in this occasion.
