A special request was made to The Minister of Education Dinesh Gunawardana by the teachers of Dhamma schools asking him to interfere to stop the private tuition classes held in the mornings of Sundays. This request was made by the Deputy Headmaster of Sri Dheerananda Dhamma school of Gangodawila Saranath Buddhist Center Mr. Sisira Kumara on behalf of the teachers of the Dhamma schools when The Minister of Education Dinesh Gunawardana came to that Buddhist center for donating some equipment from his decentralized funds on 23.01.2022. MP Yadamini Gunawardana and former Provincial Councilor Samalochana Gamage also participated in this occasion. Speaking at this occasion showing the statistics of students’ attendance in Dhamma schools the teachers of Dhamma schools pointed out that even though the discussions were held earlier also to stop private tuition classes in the morning of Sundays and allocate it for Dhamma education there is no final decision yet. Therefore, the teachers of Dhamma schools specially requested from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Buddhist Affairs to interfere to fulfill this request drawing the attention of the parliament also.
This function was held with the blessings of Buddhist monks including the chief incumbent of Gangodawila Saranath Buddhist center Bachelor of Arts Reverend Thalawe Saddhathilaka Thero and with the participation of representatives of the people MP Yadamini Gunawardana and former Provincial Councilor Samalochana Gamage, the teachers of Dhamma schools, students and the people of the area.
