Requested on the birth anniversary day of Hon. C.W.W. Kannangara the father of free education at his own village.
Offering honourary tribute to the image of Kannangara situated at his native village Lulbadduwa and having discussions for establishing a museum happened today on 13.10.2021 the 137th birth anniversary of Non. Dr. C.W.W. Kannangara at Lulbadduwa with the instructions of the Maha Nayaka Thero of Kotte Sri Kalyani Samagri Sangha Sabha of Shyamopali Maha Nikaya Rev. Dr. Iththepana Dhammalankara Maha Nayaka Thero who was also born in the same willage and with the leadership of The Minister of Education Dinesh Gunawardana.
Rev. Iththepana Dhammalankara Maha Nayaka Thero expressing his ideas at this occasion,
“I kindly mention that the teachers in the country may start teaching the school children as soon as possible. What Hon. Dr. Kannangara showed us is to provide education to all children disregarding all differences like have or have nots. Therefore, I kindly say at this moment to all teachers in this country to forget all other things and take action to provide education to the children even if you are starving. That is the most important thing in this moment. For the sake of the country and its children start teaching them saying that we do it even free of charge. We all will have the opportunity very soon to fulfill this task. This time, the Minister Dinesh Gunawardana has become the leader of this endeavor. If the children of Boralugoda Lion take up any work, it will definitely be successful.”
The Minister of Education expressing his ideas at this occasion,
“A request was submitted for constructing a museum in commemoration of Hon. Dr. C.W.W. Kannangara. And also, we appreciate the proposal submitted by the commemoration committee to provide a university status to this area.
Adding another strength to the solutions submitted at the discussions held by the Prime Minister with all teacher trade unions, it was decided to give the first stage of salary arrears of teachers and principals from this budget and to complete the rest from the next year budget. Our duty is to provide education to the children. It is an important decision taken at this difficult situation. The details of this will be submitted from the budget. The government headed by HE the President and the Prime Minister has dedicated to safeguard the rights of the teachers. The Prime Minister gave an important promise for their future development. Therefore, let’s get together and fulfill our duties for the children.”
