A delegation from Sri Lanka Book Publishers’ Association met the Minister of Education Dinesh Gunawardana on 09.09.2021 at Isurupaya, the ministry of education, Battaramulla to sensitize the issues faced by the owners of bookshops, parents and school children because of the closure of bookshops due to the current situation in the country.
They expressed that the students have faced a difficulty because they need books for general education as well as for online education. The children of international schools also have faced the same problem since they have been issued new book lists. They requested from the minister to make necessary arrangements for opening the bookshops at least two hours per day. They also said that they expect to hold the international book exhibition which is held by their association annually at the Bandaranayaka Memorial International Conference Hall as soon as the country reaches the normal situation.
The Member of Parliament Dayamini Gunawardana, The Chairperson of the book publishers’ association Mr. Upali Wanigasooriya, Mr. H.D. Premasiri, Mr. Prem Dissanayaka, Mr. Samantha Indeewara and Mr. S.C. Wanniarachchi participated in this occasion.
