A special circular about the starting all government schools is issued.

A special circular in relation to the starting of government schools in the western province and the other grades not started yet including the grade one of government approved private schools on 29.03.2021 for the year 2021 has been issued by the secretary of the ministry of education Professor Kapila Perera addressing the provincial chief secretaries, provincial education secretaries, provincial directors of education, zonal directors of education, divisional directors of education, heads of Pirivenas and the principals.  

According to that, all the schools in the western province are started on 29.03.2021 for the grades not yet started and also it has mentioned that if any area is locked down, the actions must be taken to close temporarily only the schools in that area until the relevant time period is over. 

Three days from tomorrow (26.03.2021) till 28.03.2021 have been allocated to prepare schools as health protected safe places for teaching and learning process. It has further emphasized that the priority must be given to the activities for brightening up the minds of the children while adjusting them to the school environment and it is not suitable to engage the students in examinations and competitions as soon as the schools are opened.

Furthermore, a guideline has also been included indicating how to conduct the classes while keeping the individual distance. Accordingly, the classes consisted of 15 students must be held daily though the week. The classes having 16 to 30 students must be divided into two groups and the classes must be held every other week. The classes having more than 30 students must be divided into three groups and classes must be held for equal number of days. 

According to the circular, the members of the academic and non-academic staff must call for the duties as usual because the teaching and learning process of students is started normally. 

The said circular has informed that the relevant guidelines have been published in the official web site of the ministry of education.

Accordingly, the educational activities of the first term in all schools in the island will end on 09.04.2021 and the schools are reopened on 19.04.2021 for the second term.
