Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation is in agreement with the ministry of education to provide the benefits of the Suraksha student insurance scheme that has been implemented for the health protection of the school children. Accordingly, the signing of the agreements with the relevant institution happened recently (04) at the ministry of education premises with the leadership of The Minister of Education Professor G.L. Peiris.
The Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation had an agreement with the ministry of education from 31.05.2020 to 30.09.2020 for paying the insurance benefits. Extending the agreement prevailed from 01.10.2020 to 01.12.2020 it has been further expanded to be effective from 02.12.2020 to 01.12.2021.
Accordingly, the applications must be submitted to the Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation in order to obtain the Suraksha benefits for the incidents happened since 30.05.2020.
The ministry of education has given instructions through zonal education offices to the principals and the heads of Pirivenas to take steps for sensitizing the children and parents to avoid sending the insurance claim applications to the ministry of education.
A group of representatives from the Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation including its chairperson Jagath Wellawatta and a group of senior officers of the ministry of education including Mrs. Kamani Gunarathna of Health and Nutrition Branch had joined in this occasion.
