A discussions was held today (07) between the representatives of the UNICEF and The Minister of Education G.L. Pieris about the future contribution of the UNICEF to take actions for the development of primary education in Sri Lanka.
The UNICEF expressed their willingness at this occasion to submit all expected proposals that should be implemented in the stages of early childhood and primary education and also improving the quality of primary education.
The minister of education further stated that the assistance of the UNICEF is sought for the activities related to primary education reforms within the new education reforms implementing shortly. When all plans are implemented the full attention is drawn from rural to national levels and the accommodation is provided for the views of all sections, the minister said.
The minister also requested from them to give necessary coordinating assistance to the system of education while having further discussions with the heads of the primary education branch of the ministry of education and The State Minister of Education Reforms Dr. Susil Premajayantha.
The Chief Representative of UNICEF Sri Lanka Tim Sutton, Head of Education Yashinka Jayasingha, Representative of UNICEF Takaho Fukami and other group of people attended the discussion.
