We are moving Summer Science online, with a free digital program from 13 – 17 July of talks, quizzes and videos celebrating cutting-edge and historic science.

Selected highlights: 13 – 17 July
On Monday, you could catch up with some of our previous exhibitors to find out what’s new with their research since their time at the Summer Science Exhibition, learn more about doping in sport and have fun with our family-friendly Big Summer Science Quiz. At lunchtime, we kick start our daily art challenge, inviting you to be inspired by an image from the archive collection and recreate it in our Doodle of the Day.

We find the answer to “What is my pet thinking?” on Tuesday. You can also take a tour of Halley Bay where the Royal Society established a new Antarctic research station in 1957 and discover how Professor Wolff and his
team drilled 650 metres into the West Antarctic ice sheet.

Mid-week, Dr Mark Richards helps us to see the air we breathe and what’s in it, and we delve into the history of the Exhibition to discover some of the quirky and unusual displays of the 19th and early 20th centuries, with the Royal Society’s own Librarian, Keith Moore.

offers a chance to discover new techniques in machine learning that take you outside the frame of some of your favorite paintings and Brady Haran rummages in the archives for a special edition of “Objectivity”, his YouTube channel, telling the fascinating stories behind historic scientific objects.

On our final day, we boldly go beyond our universe with Professor Tinetti to explore exoplanets orbiting other stars and there’s a chance to quiz our collection of space experts in our live Q&A. Send us your video questions in advance using #RSAskTheSpaceXperts or via our online form.
