Issuing of G.C.E. O/L and A/L certificates online is started for the first time

on xSo far issuing of General Certificate of Education ordinary level and advanced level certificates by Sri Lanka Department of Examinations happened in a way that the applicants had to come to the Department of Examinations and apply for them.

In this process some issues such as the applicants having the difficulty of coming to the Department of Examinations from any part of the island and the spending more time for the process of issuing certificates as a large number of applicants coming daily, had come up. Providing a proper solution to this problem, a program has been implemented to take the help of digital technology for this purpose under the instructions of The Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam.      

The issuing of G.C.E. ordinary level and advanced level examination certificates is done online for the first time in the history, adding another radical change to the education system of this country. This program is implemented according to a policy decision which was recommended by the committee of academics appointed in October 2017 for the modernization of the Department of Examinations under the special instructions of the minister of education.   

Accordingly, hereafter it is not necessary to come to the Department of Examinations to obtain ordinary level and advanced level examination certificates and any applicant can receive the relevant certificates within a short time of 24 hours by logging into the newly updated web site of Sri Lanka Department of Examinations www.donets.lk . 

For the purpose of delivering these certificates, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Department of Examinations and the Postal Department recently (11). According to this, the facility has been provided to any applicant even from far-away place in the country or living abroad to obtain those certificates within less than 48 hours duration of time.
