This year 405 more students are admitted to 06 main engineering faculties

The Minister of Education G.L. Pieris said that it has been decided to admit 405 more students this year to 06 main engineering faculties in this country. The minister stated this while attending a discussion held at the Higher Education Ministry premises at Ward Place.

These 405 admissions are scheduled to be taken place at the universities of Peradeniya, Jaffna, Jayawardanapura, Ruhuna, Moratuwa and South Western where the main 06 engineering faculties are available in Sri Lanka.

Further expressing his ideas the minister said that the government or the minister do not intend to interfere with administrative matters of the universities and we need to work according to the vision for prosperity policy declaration submitted by HE the President and to reach the targets contained in it. Especially, to find the solutions for the present mismatch between the university education and the job market. This is one step we are taking for this purpose taking 405 more new students this year to the engineering course which is a job oriented course.

The secretary of the ministry Professor Kapila Perera, the president of the University Grant Commission Professor Sampath Amarathunga, its Secretary Dr. Priyantha Premakumara and the vice chancellors and the deans of the relevant universities participated in this occasion.
