The program for the provision of schools through online method to the students qualified at the grade 5 scholarship exam … uploading students’ details to the system starts from 10th December

The ministry of education has taken steps for the first time to start the program of providing new schools through online method to the students who are admitted to grade 6 in 2021 based on the results of this time grade 5 scholarship examination. The official inauguration of this program was held today morning (10) at the ministry of education under the leadership of The Minister of Education Professor G.L. Peiris.     

The applications for applying new schools for the students who have obtained marks exceeding district cut off marks from the scholarship examination this time have already been called from their parents. Accordingly, the uploading of the names of the schools applied by the students and other relevant details included in the applications to the data system is done by the principals. 

The opportunity has been given to all the principals to do this data uploading activities in Sinhala or Tamil medium from today until 24th of December.  The Mobitel Institution bearing a cost of 7.5 million rupees as the sponsorship contribution has provided this service facility to the ministry of education free of charge. 

The grade 5 scholarship examination has been conducting since 1952 with the objective of providing the opportunity for all the students who have obtained marks exceeding the district cut off marks to enter a better facilitated schools and also providing bursaries to assist the education of the students from low income families. It was possible to conduct the scholarship examination successfully this time while facing the challenge of covid in the country and 47,193 students out of 326,264 the total number sat for the exam have been qualified to apply for a new school.
