The attitudes of adults must be changed before that of children.

  • A vocational education for all children who become dropouts from school education
  • Providing school uniforms and textbooks were done properly and the Advanced Level Exam was also held even before numerous crisis.

‘Perceptions ‘23’ Art Exhibition of the Thurston College can be termed as a special occasion that creates new inventors bringing out the skills going beyond subject knowledge obtained from the educational process which causes for the development of knowledge, skills and attitudes, said The Minister of Education Dr. Susil Premajayantha while participating in the certificates and prizes awarding ceremony of the art competition held today at the school.  

Expressing further his ideas at this occasion the minister said that the orientation of education must be changed to a direction full of skills and through the educational transformative process going to be done in the future it is expected to create skillful inventors with balanced knowledge and mental development achievement. Our children are empowered with necessary knowledge and the change of attitudes must be done among the adults before doing it among children, the minister stated at this occasion. To provide a vocational education for all children who become dropouts from school education, actions are being taken with the coordination of all relevant institutions and each child must obtain any type of vocational qualification. And the responsibility of parents is to direct the dropout children from school education to obtain a vocational qualification in order to make them useful citizens for the country, said the minister.

The STEAM Education program that consist of the subjects Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics together with the aesthetic subjects which is being implemented in the modern world at present but we couldn’t still go near itwill be integrated into our new educational changes. The actions have been taken to conduct 59 seminars simultaneously in the 9 provinces in this regard on 31st of March and the main program of this will be held in New Arts Theatre in Colombo, the minister said.   

The Ministry of Education is taking actions to implement the transformational change in education which brings about new inventors equipped with skills while teaching the subject of Artificial Intelligence to the children within the next step of Information Technology even confronting with numerous economic challenges, the minister said. It was possible to hold the Advanced Level Exam without any problem and to continue the welfare services such as providing school uniforms and school textbooks through a better management, the minister stated.  

The minister expressed his appreciation to the organizers for conducting “Perception 23” art exhibition as a creative method of promoting the mental status of the children that had affected during the past period of disasters resulted in closing the schools and also taking the participation of all national schools, managing the cost of it and arranging more than 1500 paintings of good quality in two halls of aesthetic university in Colombo.

The Arts Society of the Thurston college had organized this art exhibition and it will be held at J.D.A. Perera Hall of the University of Aesthetics on 2nd and 3rd of March. The Principal of the college Mr. Pramuditha Wickramasingha, the teachers and students attended this event.
