‘Temporarily stop commemorative functions, march-pasts, band shows and concerts in schools’… – Secretary of Education Professor Kapila Perera

The secretary of education Professor Kapila Perera has instructed all provincial, zonal and divisional education authorities and the heads of Pirivenas and the principals to stop holding march-pasts, musical band shows and concerts etc. in the schools except co-curricular activities and extra-curricular activities which are relevant to the educational quality development of the children although the schools in all provinces except the western province have opened facing the current health risk in a very responsible way.

The secretary of education pointed out that it has been reported the student’s attendance in currently opened schools is exceeding 70%. And also there is no whatever prohibition for conducting subject seminars, discussions and health promotion programs at school level for the promotion of education of the children, he said.

The secretary further pointed out that the ministry of education took this decision depending on the information received reporting that a few schools are holding march-pasts and concerts engaging school children in them and also considering the prevailing situation in the country about the health protection.
