P.D. Iroshini K. Paranagama, a class 1 officer in the Sri Lanka Educational Administrative Service, currently serves as the Chief Commissioner for Teacher Education at the Ministry of Education, bringing with her over 20 years of extensive experience in the field of education management, policy implementation, and institutional collaboration. Her career reflects a steadfast commitment to enhancing the quality and effectiveness of teacher education in Sri Lanka.
Chief Commissioner (Teacher Education) is the administrative officer of all National Colleges of Education, Teacher Training Colleges and Professional Development Centers for Teachers. The Teacher Education Division, which consists of two branches, the National College of Education branch and the Teacher Education Administration branch, is also under the Chief Commissioner.
Having held several key positions at zonal, provincial, and national levels, Parangama has played an instrumental role in shaping educational strategies, developing teacher competencies, coordinating policy development for pre-service and in-service teacher education programs and promoting inclusive and equitable learning environments with additional certifications and training in curriculum development, education planning and collaborating international education policy from various reputed institutions.
She has actively collaborated with several international education-focused institutions, including: British Council, participating in educational exchange and language improvement programs; promoted 21st-century skills development, KOICA (Korea International Cooperation Agency) working on education management capacity-building initiatives and technology education in National colleges of education, and JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) engaging in teacher training programs in National colleges of education and education system modernization projects.
These partnerships have enriched her understanding of global education trends and helped introduce innovative practices into the local teacher education system.
