It is the duty of a government to create a suitable environment for our children to receive a satisfactory education adding the modern technology to education. – The Minister of Education Professor G.L. Peiris

Education is not a static thing that should be remained in the same place for ever. The core of it must be changed to suit the time. A government has a responsibility to create a suitable environment for our children to receive a satisfactory education adding the modern technology to education according to the needs and priorities of the society, said The Minister of Education Professor G.L. Peiris. The minister stated this while participating in the occasion of providing a smart classroom to the Vishakha College, Colombo.

According to the memorandum of understanding signed between Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education (GMOE) of the Republic of South Korea and the Ministry of Education in Sri Lanka on 24.10.2005, the awarding of information technology tools and accessories and the smart classroom equipment to the schools and the teacher training programs for the development of the information technology education in this country happens annually.

Further expressing his ideas at this occasion the minister said,

Providing a complete timely education to the children is the main objective of our government. The education is not going to the classroom, listening to the teacher, writing notes, learning them by heart and writing them. Providing a training to face practically to the challenges of life is our expectation.

There has not been done a proper education reform in our country for about 15 to 20 years. Therefore we started a digital platform about one month ago with the aim of obtaining the views of everybody. You all are invited to provide information regarding would be changes in the education system of the country.

We know that the students have a high interest in learning not only Sinhala, Tamil and English languages but also the languages such as Chinese, Japanese, Korean and French. Therefore, we request from you to send us your proposals as much as possible. There are plenty of job opportunities in the leading companies in this country. Please give your contribution to do the necessary changes required by them. Your support is necessary to prepare the education adding a new value to it, said the minister.

A group of officials including the secretary of the ministry Professor Kapila Perera had joined in this occasion.
