The Prime Minister and the Minister of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education, Dr. Harini Amarasuriya points out the Importance of Formulating a New Policy by Recognizing Emerging Trends and Contemporary Needs at the National Committee on Higher Education Policy Development.

With the objective of preparing a comprehensive national policy for the field of higher education, the National Committee on Higher Education Policy Development convened at the Ministry of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education.

This meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Minister of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education, Dr. Harini Amarasuriya. At the meeting, the importance of ensuring harmony between national education innovation priorities, global standards, and local needs was highlighted.

On this occasion, the timely necessity of formulating a national policy for higher education was emphasized. The Minister further stressed that existing policies, laws, and regulatory frameworks must be reviewed and updated to suit the challenges of the new era.

The importance of proposing an open and qualitative regulatory framework for all higher education providers, as well as the responsibility of aligning the journey of the higher education sector with national development priorities and global standards, was especially underscored. Furthermore, the Minister pointed out that through this new national policy review within the higher education sector, it will be possible to take steps to achieve the goal of building fundamental reforms and policy development proposals.

Additional Secretary (Non-Government Higher Education) Mrs. H.D. Chandima Janaki, along with a large number of university professors, lecturers, and experts, participated in this occasion.
