A Unified Curriculum Framework for All Preschools from the Year 2027

The Parliamentary Subcommittee on Education Reforms, chaired by Prime Minister and the Minister of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education, Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, convened yesterday (22) in Parliament.

Responding to questions raised by Members of Parliament during the session, the Prime Minister stated that, starting from the year 2027, a single uniform curriculum will be implemented for all preschools throughout the country.

She further mentioned that the framework for the Early Childhood Education Curriculum has now been completed, and that a training program for approximately nineteen thousand preschool teachers is scheduled to commence on November 25, 2025. Teacher training will be conducted in every province, enabling the implementation of the teaching process in accordance with the new curriculum framework, the Minister added.

The Prime Minister further emphasized that no schools will be closed, and that the current government’s policy is to consolidate and develop schools. She noted that this is being carried out with the aim of improving the quality of the education system and ensuring equal opportunities for all.

Participating in this Parliamentary Subcommittee meeting were Members of Parliament, the Secretary to the Ministry of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education, Mr. Nalaka Kaluwewa, officials of the National Institute of Education, and other officers of the Ministry.
