The representatives of teacher-principal trade unions were summoned to the premises of the Ministry of Education today (10.09.2025) with the intention of setting up of proposed education council as soon as possible that was proposed by the committee established to expedite human resource development process.
Among the proposals submitted by the teacher’s trade unions at this occasion, the unanimous compliance of all was expressed to the idea of this education council must be a standardized organization with a stable set of principles completely devoid of politicization. The matters such as the necessity of preparing the criteria for the time frame, set of ethics and the scope of responsibility of the members of education council were basically raised at this occasion and it was emphasized this must be established and stabilized mainly upon the views and suggestions of relevant professionals just like other professional councils in this country.
The chairperson of the sub-committee for establishing the educational council, a section of parliamentary sub-committee for education, the Deputy Minister of Labour Mahinda Jayasinghe, several trade unions of Sri Lanka Teacher Service and Sri Lanka Principal Service participated in this occasion.
