Empathy in the learning process in this country is expanded with the help of Japanese government

A program named ‘Learning for Empathy’ has been started in collaboration with school children,
teachers, in-service advisors and the principals in this country with full financial support
provided by the Japanese government together with Sri Lanka UNESCO National Commission
and the New Delhi Zonal Office. The inauguration of this program was held today (25) at the
ministry of education with the leadership of The State Minister of Education Reforms, Open
University Development, and Distance Education Susil Premajayanth.
A gathering including The State Minister of Education Seetha Arambepola, Japanese
Ambassador in Sri Lanka Akira Sugaima, the Secretary of Education Professor Kapila Perera,
The Director General for UNESCO Dr. P.N. Meegahwatta, the Secretary of Education Reforms
Dr. Upali Sedara, school children selected to represent entire school community, teachers and
principals had joined in this occasion.
The main objective of this program, which is implemented in collaboration with the educationists
from Bangladesh, Pakistan, Indonesia and Sri Lanka, school children, teachers and policy makers
of the society, is to practically implement the empathic qualities in the school system in order to
achieve the sustainable education goals.
