It is the most suitable action to consider the views and proposals of the private sector for updating, formulating and revision of curricula for the purpose of eradicating the mismatch between the education, higher education and the job market in this country. Therefore, we have informed the private sector to send us their views and proposals in writing. As they say, the ways of developing soft skills and English education etc. that is not highlighted in the education and higher education, we would be able to develop those areas in education after having long discussions on them, said The Minister of Education G.L. Pieris
The minister expressed these ideas after observing the smart classroom at Susamayawardana College, Colombo today (24). Further stating his views the minister said,
“There are enough occupations in this country. The problem of not generating the suitable people for the available employments in the job market through the education and higher education has been arisen. Therefore, we request from the private sector to send us the facts about the necessary soft skills and language skills that should be promoted among the students in the fields of education and higher education. Then we will be able to provide human resources suitable for both state and private sectors according to their requirements. Specially, as a government and a citizen of the country I express our thanks to Brandix institution that implement this project of providing smart classes to the schools in the entire country. At the moment they are implementing this smart classroom project in several provincial schools in the difficult areas in Northern, Sabaragamuwa, Uva and Central provinces. Their target is to provide education to 1000,000 (one million) students through this project by the year 2021. Then we will be able to provide this facility to all schools in Sri Lanka. It is a high cost project. Our respect is due for them for the contribution given to a national endeavour like this. And also the fullest contribution of the ministry of education is given for this purpose”, the minister said.
A gathering of people including the Directors of Brandix institution Mr. Ajith Johnpille (Member of the Board of Directors), Mr. Senthil Eswaran (Director – East), Mr. Omar Asath, Mr. Lawrence Vincent, the principal of Susamayawardana College Mr. W.A. Kapila Weerasuriya and the Media Secretary of the Minister Mr. Buddhika Wikramadara joined in this occasion.
