Dates for Examinations Decided

  • The Advanced Level Examination is from 12th October
  • Grade Five Scholarship Examination on Sunday 11th of October

The Ministry of Education has decided to conduct the General Certificate of Education Advanced Level Examination of the year 2020 from Monday 12th of October to 06th of November and the grade five scholarship examination on Sunday 11th of October.

On the basis of covering the deprived learning dates of students who sit for the G.C.E. (A/L) examination in 2020 due to the spread of covid 19 pandemic, a number of requests had been received by the ministry of education asking for a reasonable time for the examination and the ministry of education drew a special concern about these requests. Accordingly, a special island wide survey was conducted with the involvement of the students scheduled to sit for G.C.E. (A/L) examination and the teachers in the process of teaching in advanced level.

And also, according to the guidelines and the directions received from the HE The President, Hon. Prime Minister and also the Minister of Education saying that the actions must be done so as to be more reasonable on the part of children when the dates for exams are decided during this challenging time, the ministry of education took this decision, the Secretary of Education Mr. N.H.M. Chithrananda stated at the special media gathering held in this regard today.

The Secretary of Education expressed his gratitude to all teachers in the country who provided their maximum contribution to the students confined to their houses during the past difficult period to continue their studies without a break and to all children who pursued productively their educational activities while remaining in homes during the deprived school term and also to all media institutions including television and radio channels, newspapers and social media networks for assisting the learning activities of the children through the presentation of educational programs.

According to the above changes made to the dates of conducting schools and holding the examinations, the second school vacation for all schools in the country will start on 09th of October and ends on 14th of November and the third school term will commence on 16th of November, the Secretary of Education further stated.

Furthermore, the ministry of education requests from the entire student population to realize deeply this critical situation that we have faced collectively as a nation and to accept this difficulty happened to the time of learning as a result of keeping schools closed as a challenge that must be overcome.

A gathering including the State Education Secretary Mr. Ranjith Chandrasekara and the Director General of Examinations Mr. Sanath Pujitha had also joined in this special media gathering.
