Special meeting was held recently (28) between The Minister of Education Professor G.L. Pieris and The High Commissioner of Pakistan Major General (retired) Muhammad Saad Khattak.
At this discussion, several topics envisaged on the mutual cooperation in the field of education were taken up. The minister of education and the High Commissioner agreed upon maintaining the bilateral cooperation strongly in various fields in higher and technical education.
The High Commissioner congratulated Sri Lankan government headed by the current President for being able to excellent mandate with two thirds majority in the last general election and also mentioned that he believes that the expectations of the people will be achieved under the new government.
The high Commissioner further stated that several steps will be taken to further strengthen the close relationship between Sri Lanka and Pakistan maintained for a long time. He also reminded that the arrangements have been made to hold Pakistan Alumni Day for the first time in this country on 07th of October at Shangri-La Hotel, Colombo and The Minister of Education Professor G.L. Pieris has been invited to participate in it as the chief guest.
Willingness was also expressed at this occasion to establish another 1000 scholarships for higher education for the students in this country under the Sri Lanka Pakistan Foundation within the next five years time. Actions will be taken to popularize Sri Lankan education among Pakistani students and the steps should be taken to build a better cooperation among the Asian countries about tourism since the major attention of the President and the Prime Minister has drawn to bring the tourism in this country to the normal situation after the covid conditions.
The minister of education further requested from the High Commissioner of Pakistan to take steps in the future for strengthening the cooperation between the two countries while maintaining a good relationship with the University Grants Commission of this country.
A gathering including the Deputy High Commissioner of Pakistan Tanvir Ahmad, media coordinator Kalsoom Qaiser, Assistant Secretary Ayesha Abu Bakr Fahad, Muhammad Akram and the media secretary of the ministry of education Buddhika Wikramadara joined in this occasion.
