The arrangements have been made to restart all government schools from tomorrow (29) that had been closed since 13th of March due to the spread of Covid 19 virus. These measures have been taken to start the second school term in four stages drawing full attention to the health protection of the students under the guidance of The Minister of Education, Sports and Youth Affairs Dallas Alahapperuma. 

Accordingly, the students are not asked to come to the schools in the first stage and only the principals, deputy principals, teachers, non-academic staff and the school management staff are called for duties in all government schools. During the first stage which will last from tomorrow (29) until 5th of July, the academic and non-academic staff headed by the principals have been entrusted with the duties of preplanning activities regarding the continuation of teaching and learning process after calling the students to the schools and also the preparation of health protection facilities such as cleaning the school premises, sterilization and the arrangements of hand washing places and sick rooms.     

The health safety methods and instructions that should be followed have already been dispatched to the schools through all provincial heads and the regional health authorities and the defense authorities have agreed to give their full assistance to the schools. The second stage of calling students to the schools will commence from 6th of July and only the students in grades 13, 11 and 5 will be called under this stage. The third stage of opening the schools will start from 20th of July and the students in grades 12 and 10 will be requested to come to schools. The fourth stage for the students in grades 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, and 9 will be started from 27th of July. Reopening of schools for the children in grades 1 and 2 will be notified later.  

The Secretary of the Ministry of Education has issued a circular in this regard and the Ministry of Education further emphasizes that all heads of  schools must take steps to conduct schools ensuring the health protection of the children considering the guidelines issued by the health authorities and the instructions in the above circular.
