The Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam says at the national function for grade one admissions.

The children who enter the grade one of the schools in 2018 will leave the schools in 2030 after completing 13 years school education. By that time, the higher education opportunities and the employment opportunities created for them will be considerably changed.

Drawing special attention to those situations all necessary changes in the education system of the country will be done with some trials and research, The Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam stated.

The minister expressed these ideas today (15) while participating in the national function held at the Isipathana College, Colombo officially marking the admission of children to grade one of the schools.

The minister also mentioned at this occasion about the special programs that have been introduced so far in the field of education for the creation of knowledge based society. It does not happen to any child to stop the school education after the ordinary level in the future and the measures have been taken to pursue with the advanced level education opportunities selecting the subjects according to the abilities of children under the 13 years assured education program which has been activated under the leadership of the Minister of Education.

Under the vocational subject approach that has been newly added to the advanced level, 26 new practical subjects suitable for modern world of work have been introduced and the recruiting and training of teachers for the pilot stage of this program has already implemented, the minister stated.

Furthermore, the minister mentioned that the English textbook for grades 1 and 2 has been introduced for improving the English education of the children in primary grades and specially for improving the basic skills of English language of the children in rural schools, the minister mentioned.

The minister emphasized that a special responsibility lies with the primary education teachers with regard to imparting the education correctly considering the mental development of the children who start school education for the first time and he congratulated wishing a bright future for all children more than 340000 in number who enter the grade one in the schools this year.
