Gift vouchers for underprivileged school children to buy shoes encouraging them to step safely into the future

Further confirming the educational rights of children, the official program for providing gift vouchers for shoes for the year 2018 to the identified economically underprivileged school children was held yesterday (11) at the Ministry of Education under the patronage of The Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam.

The minister of education expressing his ideas at this occasion said that the most valuable resource of the country is the children and he always appears for empowering the future of children through education as the minister in charge of the subject. As another important step of that endeavor, actions were taken after obtaining the cabinet approval to give gift vouchers for shoes to identified school children.

Under this program which is implemented under the guidance of The Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam for the children studying in difficult and most difficult schools in Sri Lanka gift vouchers for shoes are given for the year 2018 to 647200 students learning in 4469 identified needy schools. The amount of money spent for this purpose by the Ministry of Education is 853 million rupees.
