Steps will be taken to provide international training for Archeological officers to improve the field of Archeology – The Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam

3K1A3156The Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam says that it is a contemporary requirement to provide training opportunities for the Archeological officers in our country for acquiring the international level expertise and for Archeological research studies. If the allocations in the Department of Archeology is not sufficient for this purpose he is ready to take action to provide necessary funds even through a cabinet paper, the minister says.

The minister expressed these ideas while participating in the Archeological conference held recently (07) at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute in line with the National Archeological Day. The minister further stated that modern international conservation methods and knowledge is essential for improving our Archeological field.

It is necessary to obtain the assistance of foreign countries when the modern technology is used and expert knowledge is utilized for Archeological affairs. Therefore the actions will be planned to increase the existing number of researchers and the scholars in the field and to obtain their expert knowledge to improve this field, the minister stated.

Several scholars including the Director General of Archeology Professor P.B. Mandawala, the Director General of Central Cultural Fund Mr. Prashantha Gunawardana and former Director General of Archeology Dr. Shiran Deraniyagala had joined in this occasion.
