The Minister of Education leaves for India for the inauguration of the Vesak Zone in New Delhi

newdhilliIt is also scheduled to open the Vesak paldal made for the first time in India.

The Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam left for India today morning (15) to inaugurate the Vesak Zone built in New Delhi, India.

This Vesak Zone has been built near the Sri Lanka High Commission in India and it is consisted of more than two hundred Vesak lanterns, Vesak decorations and also a beautiful Vesak pandal. The media in India reports that this is the first time a Vesak pandal is built in India.

This pandal has been created with the height of forty feet and depicting the story of Angulimala. More than fifteen thousand electric bulbs have been used for this pandal. The story of the dandal is presented in Hindi language. In addition to this it has been scheduled to have a musical presentation of Buddhist devotional songs also.

The aim of the creation of this Vesak zone is to strengthen bilateral relationships between the two countries through the exchange of cultural and Buddhist heritages of the two countries and the protection of relationship between India and Sri Lanka that has been built based on the Buddhism. The Coordinating affairs of this event are done by The Sri Lankan High Commissioner in India Mrs. Chithrangani Wageeshwara and her staff. The Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam and several Indian Diplomats including The Minister of Tourism in India Mahesh Sharma, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Kiran Rijiju and The State Minister of Social Justice and Employments Ramdas Athwale are scheduled to participate in this inaugural function of the Vesak Zone today night. It is also significant that all three ministers participating in the function are Buddhists.
