Special program from the Central Cultural Fund for international Vesak celebrations

vesakThis time, the international Vesak celebration is held in Sri Lanka and at the moment international organizations, government institutions and private institutions are contributing to this activity. The construction of creations generating Buddhist thoughts and depicting the biography of Lord Buddha has already started.

Adjoining the Diyawanna Vesak zone which is held from 10th to 14th May, the construction of United Nations’ international Vesak zone is also being happened. This international Vesak zone is constructed with the contribution of 10 Buddhist countries in the region and within it the creations are displayed showing the Buddhist identity of these respective countries. The displaying of Sri Lankan Buddhist identity within this international Vesak zone has been given to the Central Cultural Fund under the Ministry of Education.

Accordingly, under the directions and instructions of The Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, the Central Cultural Fund has planned to build a replica of historical Anuradhapura geographical sight under the theme of “tank, Sthupa, village and the temple enriched with the Buddhism in the past” in the Diyawanna premises. The all people who visit this place will be able to experience a blissful sensation evoked by the special light beams used in a creative manner. A replica of a hundred feet high Sthupa will be constructed here. It is expected to expose in this occasion how jubilantly the way of pure Theravada Buddhism has been leading the Sri Lankan society. The Central Cultural Fund will display the Sri Lankan identity within this international Vesak zone.

On behalf of the Central Cultural Fund, The National Replica School, Bataleeya and “Ape Gama” project are completing these creations under the full supervision of the Central Cultural Fund under the directions and instructions of The Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam.

In addition to this, The Central Cultural Fund has made arrangements under the directions and instructions of The Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam to display special Vesak exhibits in the “Buddha Rashmi” Vesak zone which is held in Temple Trees premises organized by the Prime Minister’s Office.
