min2The Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has taken steps to confirm the services of 1660 people who worked as laborers in the Central Cultural Fund.

Most of the workers in this group had been joined to the service through a human resource providing institution (Man Power). They had complained that Rs. 500.00 from each of their salaries had been obtaining unjustly by this agent institution and they had been exploited by this agent.

Accordingly, the Central Cultural Fund has taken necessary steps to stop all transactions with this agency following the direct instructions of the minister.
The measures have been taken to recruit again the qualified workers who had been serving under that agency and the minister has instructed the officers to take necessary actions to recruit them into the permanent service. Accordingly, they are scheduled to be placed in the permanent service of the Central Cultural Fund.
This measure taken by The Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam who is also the president of the National Workers’ Union has become a great relief for these workers. It has happened under the blessings of The Prime Minister Ranil Wicremasingha confirming that the United National Party is the working peoples’ party and the rights of the workers really safeguarded on the May Day.
